  1. Hi Wes and Ariel, since nobody’s been commenting on definitions, I’d like to see this true spiritual meaning of agnostic. Webster’s sez that it means God is unknowable. So does it imply that it is opposite from knowing the true God, or Gnosis? Maybe this is the wrong place to ask but, the word has been coming up lately. Thanks.

    1. @Anon ~ Regarding the term agnostic

No, I don’t think it’s the opposite of Gnosis. It’s root is *in* Gnosis, in my opinion. If Gnosis is knowing oneself, then agnostic may be a facet of oneself on one level of awareness and being content with it. My personal interpretation of Agnostic is “knowing that I don’t know everything”.

An agnostic person I know says, “I’m open to any and all possibilities, and I’m not worried about trying to figure it all out.” That openness is necessary for Gnosis, and so that is why I say it is a facet or an aspect of Gnosis. We will never know everything and so being content with this “not knowing” is part of being at peace with who you are. Some people aren’t driven to search, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t on a spiritual path. They just have a different way of doing it and it’s more about *allowing* it to happen rather than going to look for it.

I think the best thing is to figure out what it means to you.

  2. Yes thank you, so Webster’s pretty close, in my mind, like the Monad, God really can’t be fully knowable at that level (Sophia being one of the Aeons from the Monad). At least not at this level of awareness, I think. Because really Gnosis only goes as far as what the Gnostics left for us to discover, and interpret. Good stuff, thanks.

    1. I wouldn’t even go so far as to say we get this from “The Gnostics”, because who are they? WE are, technically, Gnostics in that we are discovering who we are, where we are, and where we come from. So, in my opinion, Gnosis can go as far as one’s ability to know. That’s infinite, isn’t it? We think we can reach the boundary of knowledge here, but I am discovering that when I think I have reached the pinnacle, there is still more, and more…and more. You (we) will never know everything there is to know about ourselves, and to me that is as close as we can ever come to knowing GOD. There is no limit to that kind of understanding. It’s a paradox. We are limited and yet unlimited, all the same. I agree – good stuff. Thank you. 🙂

  3. Yes, synchromysticism! I said the same exact thing on my parler page few days ago.
Thanks to the original Gnostics for at first mouth to ear spreading of Gnosis, then written down and found later. But we are truly the New Gnostics. And instead of scrolls now we use computer pages which may or may not be preserved? But it has to be researched and voiced somewhere. I think the worst thing you could do is die with all this Knowledge never having said anything. Which I think many have done.
